Scholarship Introduction

To support the construction of Confucius Institutes, promote the international dissemination of the Chinese language and the spread of Chinese culture, and cultivate qualified Chinese language teachers and various types of Chinese language talents, the Headquarters of Confucius Institutes/Office of Chinese Language International Promotion (hereinafter referred to as Hanban) has established the Confucius Institute Scholarship. Support foreign students, scholars and Chinese language teachers to pursue a master's degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages at relevant Chinese higher education institutions (hereinafter collectively referred to as "receiving institutions"), or to study Chinese language and literature, Chinese history and Chinese philosophy.

     China University of Petroleum (Beijing) welcomes outstanding overseas students or Chinese language teachers to study Chinese at our university for one year or one semester.

Standard

The Confucius Institute Scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodation fees, living expenses and comprehensive medical insurance fees according to the content of the funding. Among them, the living expense standard is: 2,500 RMB per month for one semester and one academic year for trainees.

Admission categories and application requirements

The scholarship admission categories of our school are one-year research students and one-semester research students. The recruitment targets are non-Chinese nationals, in good health, and generally aged between 16 and 35 (for in-service Chinese language teachers, the age limit can be relaxed to 45).

 

The one-year study program is offered to outstanding students of Confucius Institutes (classrooms), winners of the ";Chinese Bridge" World Chinese Language Competition for College and High School Students, overseas local Chinese language teachers, outstanding graduates of Chinese language majors from universities, those with excellent HSK test scores, or individuals who are interested in international Chinese language education. The study majors include Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, and Chinese philosophy. The enrollment date is September 2016, and the funding period is one academic year. Applicants must have an HSK score of no less than 180 points at Level 3, an HSKK score of no less than 50 points, or A BCT (A) score of no less than 180 points and a BCT (Speaking) score of no less than 180 points.

 

2. The one-semester study program is offered to outstanding students of Confucius Institutes (classrooms), winners of the ";Chinese Bridge" World College and High School Chinese Competition, overseas local Chinese language teachers, outstanding students majoring in Chinese in universities, and those with excellent HSK test scores. The study majors include Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, and Chinese Philosophy. The enrollment time is in the autumn of 2015 or the spring of 2016. The funding period is one semester. Applicants must have an HSK score of no less than 120 points at Level 2, an HSKK score of no less than 40 points, or A BCT (A) score of no less than 100 points and a BCT (Speaking) score of no less than 120 points.

 

Application process/channel

Applicants can log on to the Confucius Institute Scholarship website (http://cis.chinese.cn) to register an individual account and complete and submit the Confucius institute scholarship application form online.

Materials required for application

Applicants must log in to the scholarship website, fill out the "Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Form", and attach the electronic documents of the following supporting documents:

1. Passport photo page.

2. HSK and HSKK score reports.

3 Notarized highest academic degree or proof of study at school.

4 Applicants under the age of 18 must submit relevant legal documents entrusting their legal guardians in China.

5 Winners of the "Chinese Bridge" World College and High School Students Chinese Competition's semi-final in China must provide scholarship certificates. Winners from each country's sub-region must provide proof of their awards and recommendation letters issued by the regional organizing units.

6 In-service Chinese language teachers must submit a certificate of employment and a recommendation letter issued by their current institution.
