To expand cultural and people-to-people exchanges between China and South Asian countries and promote the localization of Chinese language teachers in South Asian countries, the Headquarters of Confucius Institute/Office of Chinese Language International Promotion (hereinafter referred to as Hanban) has established the Confucius Institute Scholarship Program for Chinese Language Teachers in South Asian Countries.
The nationalities of the applicants are: Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Maldives and India
Funding projects and application requirements
I. Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages
Funding period: 2 academic years
Registration requirements
1. Non-chinese nationality, under 35 years old, with a bachelor's degree or equivalent qualifications;
2. The Chinese proficiency must reach 180 points in HSK Level 5 and 60 points in HSKK Intermediate.
3. An agreement must be signed with the Confucius Institute Headquarters. Those who can provide a work agreement or relevant proof from the institution where they plan to teach after graduation will be given priority.
Funding method
Tuition and accommodation fees are waived, and a living allowance of 3,000 RMB per month is provided.
2. One round-trip economy class air ticket between the home country's residence and the school attended is provided each academic year.
Note: After enrollment, all scholarship students must participate in the annual review. Only when their academic performance and Chinese proficiency test meet the review requirements can they continue to enjoy the scholarship in the second academic year.
Ii. Chinese International Education Undergraduate, Foundation + Undergraduate (1+4)
Funding period: 4 years of undergraduate study, 5 years of foundation and undergraduate funding
Registration requirements
Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals, under 25 years old, and have a high school diploma.
2. To apply for an undergraduate program, the Chinese proficiency must reach 180 points in HSK Level 3 and 60 points in HSKK Intermediate.
3. An agreement must be signed with the Confucius Institute Headquarters.
Funding method
Tuition and accommodation fees are waived, and a living allowance of 2,500 RMB per month is provided.
2. One round-trip economy class air ticket between the home country's residence and the school attended is provided each academic year.

Iii. Short-term Intensive Chinese Language Training (one academic year/one semester)
Funding period: 11 months for one academic year and 5 months for one semester
Registration requirements
Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals, current students majoring in Chinese or related fields, and have no experience of studying in China.
2. To apply for one academic year, the Chinese proficiency must reach 180 points in HSK Level 3 and 60 points in HSKK Beginner.
3. To apply for one semester, the Chinese proficiency must reach 120 points in HSK Level 2 and 60 points in HSKK Beginner.
Funding method
Tuition and accommodation fees are waived, and a living allowance of 2,500 RMB per month is provided.
V. Application Procedures
Step 1: Fill out the online application form
Applicants should log in to the Confucius Institute Scholarship website (http://cis.chinese.cn), register, fill in the Confucius institute scholarship Application Form and upload electronic scanned copies of relevant supporting documents as required.
Applicants who choose the 1+4 program, please select ";Undergraduate"; and note "1+4" after your Chinese name, for example, ";Wang Wei 1+4"
All applicants are requested to check ";Is it a project of the Faculty Office of the Confucius Institute Headquarters?"; Check "Yes"; in it
Step 2: Contact the ";recommending Institution"; for online recommendation
Regarding the recommending institutions:
The main types of recommending institutions are as follows
1) Confucius Institutes operating for more than half a year/independently established Confucius classrooms: check at www.hanban.org
2) HSK test centers with the right to recommend scholarships: check at www.chinesetest.cn
3) The overseas regional organizers of the "Chinese Bridge"; competition are the education and cultural sections (groups) of Chinese embassies (consulates) abroad, Confucius Institutes and related educational institutions. For more information, please contact chinesebridge@hanban.org
2. After the applicant selects the recommending institution and submits the online application, please contact the recommending institution for online recommendation.
Step 3: Send the paper application materials

2. Scanned copy of the photo page of the passport.
Applicants under the age of 18 must have their parents officially entrust a foreigner or Chinese resident residing in China as the guardian of the foreign student, and submit notarized materials of the guardian's guarantee letter.
3. Scanned copies of HSK and HSKK score reports (valid for 2 years). Online grades are not accepted.
Winners of the "Chinese Bridge"; semi-final who come to China can provide the ";Chinese Bridge"; award certificate and the ";Confucius Institute Scholarship Certificate";.
4. A recommendation letter signed by the person in charge of the recommending institution
5. Highest academic degree certificate (expected graduation certificate) and academic transcript during school.
Graduation expectation certificate or on-campus study certificate, transcript. If the certificate is not in Chinese or English, the corresponding notarized document must be provided. The original of the highest academic degree certificate and transcript with the official seal are required. Photocopies and color photocopies will not be accepted.
6. Personal statement of the applicant (background of Chinese language learning, study plan and goals in China, etc.). Please write in Chinese or English, print and attach the applicant's signature.
7. A copy of the "Foreign Physical Examination Records". This form is uniformly printed by the Chinese health and quarantine department and must be filled out in English. The "Physical Examination Record for Foreigners" is invalid if it is incomplete, does not have the individual's photo attached, or the photo is not stamped with a cross-stitch seal, or does not have the signatures and seals of the doctor and the hospital.

Step 4: Wait for the video interview notice
The School of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language at East China Normal University will organize interviews for students who have passed the review for their undergraduate and master's programs. The interview can be a skype video interview or an on-site interview. The interview time will be notified by email and phone. Please ensure to provide valid contact information.
Vi. Precautions

4. If the application materials are found to be false or not filled out and submitted by the applicant himself/herself, the application qualification will be cancelled once verified.
If a winner is unable to report for duty due to any reason, they should inform the receiving institution in writing 15 days before the reporting date and state the reason. Those who fail to report without a valid reason will be disqualified from the scholarship.
Students who fail the physical examination upon admission, or who drop out or take a leave of absence halfway, will have their scholarship eligibility revoked.
