To meet the growing international demand for Chinese language education talents, promote the development of Chinese language education in countries around the world, and support the growth of international Chinese language education talents, the Center for Language Education and Research of the Ministry of Education (hereinafter referred to as the Center) has established the International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship (hereinafter referred to as the Scholarship), focusing on cultivating qualified overseas Chinese language teachers. Confucius Institutes, independently established Confucius Classrooms, and some test centers for Chinese language proficiency tests Foreign relevant educational institutions, Chinese language teacher training programs/Chinese language departments of universities, foreign organizations related to Chinese language teaching, Chinese embassies and consulates abroad, etc. (hereinafter referred to as "recommending institutions") may recommend outstanding students and in-service Chinese language teachers to study and further their education in teaching Chinese to Speakers of other languages and related majors at Chinese universities (hereinafter referred to as "receiving institutions").


Scholarship categories and application requirements

At present, the enrollment categories of Dalian University of Technology are Master's degree students in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, one-year visiting students, one-semester visiting students and four-week visiting students. The recruitment targets are non-Chinese nationals. Good physical and mental health, excellent in both character and academic performance; Be committed to engaging in Chinese language education, teaching and related work; The age range is 16 to 35 years old. The age limit for in-service Chinese language teachers is relaxed to 45 years old, and applicants for undergraduate scholarships generally should not exceed 25 years old.

Master's degree candidate in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages

Enrollment begins in September and the academic system lasts for three years. The research directions of this major include: (1) Teaching Chinese as a second language; (2) Research on second language acquisition; (3) Comparative studies of Chinese and foreign cultures and research on the dissemination of Chinese culture.

The funding period provided by the Center for Language Education and Research of the Ministry of Education is two years. Upon the expiration of the funding period and the approval of the application review, it can be converted into the President's Scholarship for International Students of Dalian University of Technology.

Have a bachelor's degree. A score of 210 in HSK (Level 5), no less than 65 in writing (composition), 60 in HSKK (Intermediate), and other supporting materials are required. Those who can provide a work agreement or relevant proof from the institution where they plan to teach after graduation will be given priority.

2. One-year trainee

Enrollment in September, with a funding period of 11 months. International students in China will not be admitted.

2.1 Chinese Language and Literature

The score of the Chinese proficiency test should reach 180 points in HSK (Level 4) and 60 points in HSKK (Intermediate).

2.2 Chinese Language Study

A score of 210 in HSK (Level 3) is required for the Chinese proficiency test. Those who provide HSKK scores will be given priority.

3. One-semester trainee

Enrollment in September or March of the following year, with a funding period of five months. Those with X1 or X2 visas in their passports will not be admitted.

For the direction of Chinese Language and Literature, the score of the HSK (Level 3) must reach 180 points, and an HSKK score is required.

4. Four-week trainees

Enrollment in July or December, with a funding period of 4 weeks. Those with X1 or X2 visas in their passports will not be admitted.

The directions include Chinese language study, Tai Chi culture, Chinese language + Chinese family experience, etc., with HSK scores. The recommending institutions can form groups to sign up and contact the receiving institutions in advance to determine the study plan in China, and report it to the center for approval in advance. Each group should consist of 10 to 15 people.


Funding content and standards

The scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodation fees, living expenses (except for four-week visiting students) and comprehensive medical insurance.

The tuition fees are allocated by the receiving institutions for the cultivation and management of scholarship students, the organization of cultural activities, and the participation in Chinese language tests, etc.

2. Accommodation fees are managed and used by the receiving institution, which provides free dormitories for students, usually double rooms. Upon application by the scholarship student and approval by the receiving institution, if the student chooses to live off campus, the school will pay the accommodation fee on a monthly or quarterly basis. The standard for doctoral students is 1,000 RMB per month, and for other types of scholarship students, it is 700 RMB per month.

3. Living expenses will be issued monthly by the receiving institution. The standard for undergraduate students, one-year and one-semester visiting students is 2,500 RMB per month. The monthly salary for master's students majoring in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages is 3,000 RMB.

Scholarship recipients must report to the receiving institution within the time specified in the admission notice; otherwise, their scholarship eligibility will be revoked. Those who register at the school by the 15th of the month (inclusive) will receive the full living expenses for that month. Those who register after the 15th will receive half a month's living allowance for the current month. Scholarship students who leave China for more than 15 days due to personal reasons during their study period (excluding winter and summer vacations) will have their living expenses suspended during the period of absence from China.

Scholarship students who suspend their studies, withdraw from school or are subject to disciplinary action by the receiving institution for personal reasons will have their living expenses suspended from the date of suspension, withdrawal or receiving the notice of disciplinary action.

The living expenses for graduates will be issued until half a month after the graduation date determined by the school.

4. The comprehensive medical insurance premium shall be purchased uniformly by the receiving institution in accordance with the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education of China on international students coming to study in China. The standard for four-week trainees is 160 RMB per person, 400 RMB per person for one-semester trainees, and 800 RMB per person per year for those with more than one academic year.


Application materials

A scanned copy of the photo page of the passport.

2. Scanned copies of HSK and HSKK score reports (valid for two years).

3. A recommendation letter from the person in charge of the recommending institution.

4. Provide the highest academic degree certificate (expected graduation certificate) and the academic transcript during school.

5. For the Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages program, two recommendation letters from supervisors with the title of associate professor or above must be provided. Those who provide a work agreement with the institution where they plan to teach after graduation will be given priority for funding.

6. In-service Chinese language teachers must attach a certificate of employment and a recommendation letter issued by their current institution.

Applicants under the age of 18 must submit a power of attorney signed by their guardian in China.

8. Applicants must also provide other supporting documents as required by the receiving institution.


Application process and application deadline

Starting from March 1st, applicants can log in to the International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship Application website (cis.chinese.cn) to apply for the International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship.

Log in to the scholarship website to check the recommending institutions and receiving universities. Submit application materials online, keep an eye on the application process, review opinions and scholarship evaluation results. Scholarship recipients confirm with the receiving institutions the procedures for studying in China and print the award certificates online. Report for registration at the receiving institution within the time specified in the admission notice.

The center entrusted an expert group to conduct a centralized review. Based on the HSK and HSKK test scores and levels, taking into account factors such as country of origin, the best candidates will be selected for funding. The scholarship review process will be completed approximately three months before enrollment, and the review results will be announced.

Those who have won the "International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship Certificate" in various Chinese Bridge competitions should log in to the International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship website and submit their application materials to the target receiving institutions with the scholarship certificate.

4. Students who fail to report on time, fail the physical examination upon admission, withdraw from school halfway, or take a leave of absence will have their scholarship eligibility revoked.
