To enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese people and people from all over the world, and to promote exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries in various fields, the Chinese government has established scholarships to support outstanding students and scholars from all over the world to study or conduct research at Chinese institutions of higher learning.

The Ministry of Education of China has entrusted the China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as "CSC") to be responsible for the recruitment, admission and management of Chinese Government Scholarship students.

I. Project Category and Application Channel

(1) Country-specific projects

Scholarships provided in accordance with the cooperation and exchange agreements signed or the consensus reached between China and the governments and institutions of relevant countries can recruit undergraduate students, master's students, doctoral students, regular visiting students and advanced visiting students.

The applicant submits an application to the relevant dispatching department in the country where they are located.

(2) Independent recruitment programs of Chinese institutions

Scholarships provided to Chinese institutions of higher learning are used to support outstanding students directly selected and recommended by the institutions to study in China. The categories of admissions are subject to the specific requirements of the project notice.

The applicant submits an application to the Chinese institution undertaking this project.

(3) Special Scholarship Programs

        Scholarships provided in accordance with the cooperation agreements signed between China and relevant international organizations and institutions. The applicant submits the application to the relevant international organizations and institutions.

(4) Credit Student Program

Scholarships provided under the exchange and cooperation agreements between Chinese and foreign institutions can admit both regular and advanced visiting students, with a study period not exceeding 12 months.

Applicants submit their applications to Chinese institutions and their foreign partner institutions.

Ii. Types of funding, duration, institutions and professional scope

(1) Funding Category

Including undergraduate students, master's degree students, doctoral students, regular visiting students and advanced visiting students.

(II) Funding Period

Including Chinese remedial classes (preparatory courses) and professional study time. The funding period for Chinese language remedial courses (preparatory courses) is generally one year, and the funding period for professional studies is, in principle, consistent with the basic duration of study.

(3) Scope of institutions and majors

The Chinese institutions undertaking the task of cultivating Chinese government scholarship students offer a wide range of majors including science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, economics, law, management, education, history, literature, philosophy, and art.

Iii. Funding Content and Standards

Iv. Application Requirements

(1) Non-Chinese citizens, in good physical and mental health;

(2) Educational qualifications and age requirements

Applicants for a bachelor's degree should have the equivalent academic qualifications of a high school graduate, excellent academic performance, and generally be no older than 25 years old.

Applicants for a master's degree should have a bachelor's degree or equivalent academic qualifications, excellent academic performance, and generally be no older than 35 years old.

Applicants for a doctoral degree should hold a master's degree or have equivalent academic qualifications, have excellent academic performance, and generally be no older than 40 years old.

4. Regular visiting students should have a high school diploma or above upon enrollment and generally be no older than 45 years old.

5. Advanced visiting students should have a master's degree or above, or an associate professor or above title at the time of enrollment, and generally should not exceed 50 years old.

(3) Language Requirements

1. Applicants for a bachelor 's degree must take the Academic Proficiency Test for Undergraduate Admission to China (CSCA) (official website: www.csca.cn);

2. For those applying for disciplines and majors where Chinese is the professional teaching language, the Chinese proficiency of regular visiting students (except for Chinese language majors) and advanced visiting students should, in principle, reach at least HSK level 3. For those applying for master's or doctoral degrees, the Chinese proficiency should, in principle, reach at least HSK Level 4.

3. Applicants for master's degrees, doctoral degrees, regular visiting students and advanced visiting students whose professional teaching language is a foreign language should meet the admission requirements of the foreign language proficiency of the applied institutions.

(4) Applicants should simultaneously meet the admission requirements of the applied institution in terms of academic ability and other relevant aspects.

V. Application Process

1. Applicants should search for information on Chinese institutions and related majors through the "Study in China" website or other channels to determine the application program, institution and major.

2. Applicants should contact Chinese institutions to obtain relevant admission materials.

3. The applicant contacts the relevant application acceptance agency to obtain the recommendation qualification.

4. The applicant login "the Chinese government scholarship to study in management information system" (http://www.campuschina.org), fill in the Chinese government scholarship application form online and submit the required application materials;

5. The application acceptance institution submits the list of recommended candidates and application materials to the China Scholarship Council.

6. The China Scholarship Council organizes relevant institutions and experts to conduct qualification and academic reviews of the recommended candidates and determine the admitted candidates.

7. The China Scholarship Council will notify the application acceptance agency of the admission result, and the application acceptance agency will then notify the applicant.

6. Application materials

1. "Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship" (filled out online)

2. The first page of the passport. Applicants must submit a clear scanned copy of the first page of their ordinary passport. If the current passport is valid for less than 12 months (counting from the expected start date of study), please apply for a new passport in a timely manner and use the new passport to complete the scholarship application. For applicants who are unable to apply for a passport before submitting the application due to objective reasons, with the permission of the receiving institution, they may submit valid documents or proofs containing their "English name, gender, nationality, date of birth" and other information.

3. Notarized highest academic degree certificate. If the applicant is a current student, they must submit a certificate of expected graduation or a certificate of enrollment issued by their school.

4. Academic transcript. Texts in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by notarized Chinese or English translations.

5. Proof of language proficiency. Applicants for master's, doctoral, regular visiting students and advanced visiting students who come to China and choose Chinese as the medium of instruction must provide a valid HSK score report that meets the corresponding Chinese proficiency requirements. Applicants whose major is taught in a foreign language should provide corresponding language proficiency certificates as required by the school, such as IELTS or TOEFL score reports.

6. Academic Proficiency Test (CSCA) score report for undergraduate Admission to China. Applicants for a bachelor's degree must register for CSCA and obtain a valid transcript before the application deadline. For the compulsory test subjects required for the applied major, please contact your preferred university for inquiry and acquisition.

7. Admission materials. Applicants for master's and doctoral degrees, as well as those applying to study in China as regular or advanced visiting students, should provide the admission materials issued by the applying institution, which may include the admission notice, the pre-admission notice or the invitation letter from the supervisor, etc. (The admission materials will be one of the documents for priority admission under the Chinese Government Scholarship).

8. Study or research plan in China. (Undergraduates should write no less than 200 words, visiting students no less than 500 words, and postgraduates no less than 1,000 words), in either Chinese or English.

9. Recommendation letter. Applicants for master's or doctoral degrees and those applying to study in China as advanced visiting students must submit two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors, written in either Chinese or English.

10. Personal works. Applicants for art, design and other related majors should provide personal work materials (such as videos, paintings, etc.).

Applicants under the age of 18 must submit relevant legal documents of their legal guardians in China.

Applicants who plan to study in China for more than six months must submit a copy of the "Physical Examination Form for Foreigners" (keep the original by yourself. This form is uniformly printed by the Chinese health and quarantine department and must be filled out in English). Applicants should strictly follow the items required in the "Physical Examination Form for Foreigners" for the examination. The "Physical Examination Form for Foreigners" is invalid if there are any missing items, if the applicant's photo is not attached, if the photo is not stamped with a cross-stitch seal, or if there are no signatures and seals from the doctor and the hospital. The validity period of the inspection results is six months.

13. Certificate of no criminal record. Applicants must submit a valid certificate of no criminal record issued by the local public security authority, which is usually a document issued within six months prior to the date of application submission.
